The scoop on poop

WHY DO PUPPIES GET DIARRHEA: Lots of reasons – stress, change in environment, new home, poop, poop eating, food, to many treats, to many different foods/treats, water, vaccinations, Flea and Tick meds., *parasites, *worms, eating everything outside and inside etc. and sometimes things that are more serious. You can try adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or cilium (fiber) to each meal to see if it helps with diarrhea, plus a probiotic (Forti Flora you can get from your vet.)

**HOW DO PUPPIES GET WORMS AND PARASITES:  Puppies get worms and parasites from a number of things, poop, their mother, the environment i.e. outside, fields, streams, dog parks, other dogs etc.? Adult dogs can have these but their immune systems can handle it. Puppies have weaker immune systems and when under stress (which is just about anything for a puppy) can occur or reoccur.  Like moving to the family room in my home, weaning, vaccinations, oral flea and tick medications, new home, new adventures etc. It can present as diarrhea and sometimes vomiting. If you have vomiting consult your vet. right away.  If you can't get the diarrhea under control or don't see any improvement within a few days with canned pumpkin and probiotics then I highly recommended you consult your vet. Young puppies can dehydrate pretty quickly.

Here is a good link from some veterinarians at Preventative Vet. for at home remedies for Diarrhea.  Plus some other good info.
